"Ahh! Gaijin da!" "It's a foreigner!" the kid screamed after rounding the corner of the supermarket aisle and running into me. He quickly turned on his heels and darted off to find his mother. Yes, there was no doubt about it, I was a gaijin, a thing to shock small children and adults alike

Mie Photo Break
A few photos I took in Toba and Ise last weekend....
Hi Tornados! I THINK they're playing with that stringy fireworks and the buckets are the water/sand bucket for safety... I could be completely wrong though. Any thoughts?
I Googled it a bit and found out that the Maneki Neko has a lot of other colors! There's even a pink one for love, haha~
I'm somewhat of a photographer too actually. But my camphone does has its limitations.
My most favorite pic was the 2nd to the last; where there's a mural of kids playing with sticks. It's as if shadows from long ago imprinted themselves to the wall... forever reminiscing the past.
komban wa! i just stumbled across your blog & love it! i'm planning a weekend getaway to toba/ise shima. was it great to visit? any suggestions? check out my blog: leahbellthegaijin.blogspot.com ... have a great night! :)
I really enjoyed that area. Toba was relaxing because we stayed in a resort but enjoyed a few hours in the town itself. Ise I loved and wished we'd allowed for more time there. I'm just off to check your blog now!
Hello, Melanie!
ReplyDeleteReally very nice!
Thank you.
I love the pics.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't tell what the last one is.
Thanks guys!
ReplyDeleteContamination - the last photo is of lots of fish tails... sorry, I named it on Flickr but didn't on the blog ;)
Do you know what the the shadow people are doing in the forth picture?

ReplyDeletewow great photos, thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteYes very great photography skills! I hope to own a digicam once I get to Japan and capture every moment like you do!
ReplyDeleteI think they're playing with "tops". You know, the ones that spin? Here in my country, kids still play that.
They tie a rope/string around the top and then suddenly pull it; causing it to spin. And I guess they're using the buckets as "arenas/battle grounds".
BTW, has anyone ever seen any other colors of the Maneki Neko?
Thanks for that Megane-kun!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure once you get here, you'll be going crazy with your digicam!
I have seen black maneki neko and red ones too. Ocassionally you see the other colours, but not that often.
