I love the sound of pre-dusk on a sunny day. The sound of futons being beaten. The way the sound bounces off buildings and echoes. The way a number of women will be beating futons at the same time, it sounds like some sort of percussion jamming session.
Sitting at home and hearing that, I know it's been a lovely sunny day.
Yes, some of my strongest memories are of certain sounds I hear in Japan that I don't hear in the States.
ReplyDeleteA funny sounding bird in Otawara, the train station chimes, and the mailman cruising around the neighborhood on his scooter.
What about those great little things called Semi's?? :) How did I ever survive in Canada without them.
ReplyDeletemy favourite Japanese sounds are the tunes at the train stations when a train arrives.
ReplyDeletethis one sounds romantic
ReplyDelete-simple situation yet very meaningful to certain people.
i can feel your happiness
ReplyDeleteHey tornadoes - yeh, we have just gotten bird sounds at my local station, I just love them!
ReplyDeleteHey fantasy.. - you mean cicadas? Definately a sound of summer. Actually, they still make me think of Christmas holidays and swimming in the pool, back home (in Australia), I'd wake up to a chorus of them every morning on summer holidays.
Hey Lina - yeh, we don't have that around here, but I know the sound you mean from Tokyo. I love it because to me, it's such a Tokyo sound.
Hey Syahiran - yeh these sounds stick with me forever. It's funny, when I'm back in Australia and I hear those sounds in a Japanese movie, I get really homesick for Japan.
Hey Huey - yep, very happy sounds :)
Thank you for dropping by and I will look for the book. My German is pretty good. I have to look up some words like bark but otherwise we can converse. My biggest obstacle right now is not having anyone near me who speaks german or whom I could have a play group with. So this is hard. Also requires lots of motivation.
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming by.
