Bento Art

And to think, my poor kids will just be getting sent to school with a Vegemite sandwich and a piece of fruit...

To eat, or not to eat...

Looks as if each one has been made with so much time and devotion, I can't bear to just 'eat' it.

Usually when I make lunch, I just pack in rice and a dollop of what I had for breakfast. Time and energy are things I just can't spare no more.

I haven't made a proper bento before. Maybe I should go and try to do one one of these days. I've always wanted to make that mini-octopus shaped sausage!

I would never have the energy and patience to do a proper bento, never mind how much I love my son. :D

Wow those look amazing, and tasty. Though I don't know if I could ever bring myself to eat them...

I can now say, I'm now addicted to Bento Box Art... that's hilarious !!! My favourite the one on the top right - the egg makes me laugh so much.

Bento Box lunches in school are great because of the variety and nutritional content compared with "traditional lunches" back home in Canada. I am going to miss Japanese lunches/bento boxes when I leave Japan.

Too bad women here have to wake up at 4-5am just so their children, lets not forget the husband, have something to look at when they eat...do they even care/appreciate their moms/wives waking up so early to make them a lunch? Unlikely.

What about teaching your kids some responsibility by having them make the bento's in the morning. Just like all my friends had to do back home.

This post is assuming the wife has a job. If the wife doesn't work then I don't feel her pain of having to wake up that early.

Hmmm...since it is lunch time guess I'll be going to grab myself a nicely prepared bento from the small restaurant that my "grandmother" owns. :) I need her to open up a shop in Canada!

These would have been so wasted on me at school... the contents of my lunchbox always looked like they'd spent time in a cement mixer by the time I got to them.

And another thing! When I was on exchange, no one ever made anything like this for me... which is probably lucky, because I would have just felt embarrassed by someone putting in so much effort for me.

Tell you the truth, I'm just so taken by compartments in bento boxes that I don't even need them to be filled to be impressed.

So much fun to be had with bentos. Where did you find these?

Great find. There are terrific. As rookie onigiri makers, we are floored.

Hey Megane-kun - yeh, I make my lunch just like you. I don't know if I could eat these works of art.

Hey Lina - Me neither!

Hey Rhia - I'm with you there.

Hey Serena - they're cool aren't they! I had so much fun searching to make the mosaic

Hey fantasy - yeh, i also had to make my own lunch once I was old enough. It was pretty healthy, not that there was really any other option in our house. My lunch certainly didn't look this good though.

Hey Bex - yeh, I hadn't thought about that, my lunches used to get scrambled as well.

Hey Syahiran - I'd just want to look at them as well. Also, as gorgeous as it looks, not so sure I'd be keen on eating blue rice.

Hey Tamakikat - I found these on Flickr

Hey Kasdan family - Yeh, I'm still an onigiri beginner as well

Hey Laurent - no I haven't tried one, to make or to eat. Actually, I don't know if I could do either.
