Japanese Sights

What I saw while riding to school this morning.

A Buddhist priest dressed in all his finery, probably on his way to perform a ceremony, riding a scooter with a wooden box placed on his lap.

You've gotta love some of the things you see in Japan.

we once were riding round the country lanes in Scotland and came accross a bhuddist monk walking down the road. Turns out that there is a Tibetan temple up there.

Uh oh....Sorry if I'm leaving a double post, my computer just freaked out on me while I tried to leave my first - I was just saying that it took me awhile to get over seeing women regularly walking through train stations and going about daily life in kimono, too, but it's so perfectly Japanese to see something look slightly out of place like that! ^^ I would have loved to see what you did!

Heh heh, I love it when they do stuff like that, it's so incongruous (in a fun way). This reminded me of the first part of a post I read a couple of weeks ago about climbing on Mt Yari:

It's the little things like that that make Japan interesting. I love to look for the little unique things when I visit Japan.

Hey Guzzisue, it's a great site to see, we have a buddhist temple in Brisbane as well.

Hey Dateline Osaka - I agree, I still smile whenever I see women in kimono talking on mobile phones.

Hey Chris, yeh, it should just be normal I suppose, I mean they still have a normal life, yet it is such a special sight. I'll have to check out that link in a minute ;)

Hey Tornadoes, and that's the great thing about living here, you get to see little things like that every week and they make life so special. Boy I'm going to miss this country when I move back next year :(

Hey Syahiran, yep, a very cool sight.

Hey Kasdan family, I would have loved to have gotten a shot, but I was on my bike on my way to school and he was going the other way, it was one of those fabulous fleeting moments, but too fast to get a photo.

Melanie, why do you have to move back to Australia if you enjoy Japan so much?

The wooden box was probably full of comic books. That was the case when I went to a family thing (memorial service of some description) at Okaasan's place once. The priest turned up on his motorcycle, opened his wooden box, and took out a bunch of comics he'd borrowed from The Man.

(They were foodie comics - The Man's favourite - which contained recipes as well as stories, which is why he wanted them back.)

Hey Peter - yeh, it's more that I want a house, a baby and a dog more right now and hubby is ready to move away from ALT work that motivates moving back to Australia. I really will miss this country though!

Hey Badaunt - that is priceless! Oh how I wish I was there to see that!
